Mobilising After Lockdown
After many discussions in my network it’s becoming clearer that we will not be normal for a long time. It’s not just about how soon we all go back to our offices but how our behaviour will change when we’re working together.
Will you be configuring desk space so that there remains a 2m physical space? If you can’t do that, will you be considering sharing days in the office between your staff so that they don’t all occupy the space at the same time?
If you are in control of communal spaces, eg kitchen and toilets, how much are you budgeting on cleaning and hygiene? If you’re in a shared space, what then? By the way, if you have any great tips on Covid office hygiene please share them. I heard dry-steam cleaning at 120 degrees kills Coronavirus.
How will your staff feel about coming out of lockdown? It is fair to say that there’s a lot of people who are psychologically affected by Covid-19 and will have a massive fear about ‘going outside’ (I think I’m one of them).
As an employer, how far are you actioning your duty of care to your staff? It seems we’re in a no-win situation as work from home doesn’t suit everyone either.
These are all serious considerations whilst at the same time many businesses are fighting for financial survival. It could be time to rethink business models, restructuring operations and possibly down-sizing.
